History
Lornah started running in school and was granted a scholarship for the school of medicine in India in 1995. She decided to first try her luck in athletics and made it immediately to the National team of Kenya. She ran her first marathon in1997, the Los Angeles Marathon, and won.
In 2002 she married in the Netherlands and in 2003 she became a citizen of the Netherlands. She represented her new country for the first time in the 2003 World Championships and later in the Olympics in 2004 and 2008.
In 1999 Lornah founded the High Altitude Training Centre in Iten, Kenya where many national athletics teams and individuals of many countries prepare at 2400 metre altitude for their races.
Lornah is the founder of the Lornah Kiplagat Foundation which is setting up the Lornah Kiplagat Sports Academy in Kenya. The LKSA will be a boarding high school for 300 to 600 girls from very poor background from all over Kenya. They will combine academics at a high level with sport at a high level.
